Of drivers who own a mobile:

The Carphone Warehouse is today launching a seven-figure campaign to encourage UK motorists to ‘Hang up or go Handsfree.’ The two-month campaign launches three months before new legislation comes into effect making holding a mobile phone whilst driving an offence. Penalties will include £30 on the spot fines, £1000 fines in court and three penalty points on their licenses.
Following the announcement of the new law, The Carphone Warehouse commissioned NOP Automotive to conduct independent research into mobile phone use whilst driving, and the staggering results above have led to the company launching the industry’s biggest ever safe driving campaign.
The Hang up or Go Handsfree campaign offers customers up to 50% off personal handsfree and in-car solutions at The Carphone Warehouse for the months of September and October, and will be heavily supported through above and below the line marketing and advertising campaigns.
“UK motorists are aware that the law is changing but most have not yet readied themselves for handsfree phone use” says Andrew Harrison, UK Chief Executive of The Carphone Warehouse. “As the leading mobile phone retailer in the UK, we have a responsibility to help encourage people to drive safely, and so we’re slashing our in-car solution prices in time for the changing legislation on 1st December. “
