Colin Jackson officially opens landmark store in Queen Street

The Carphone Warehouse celebrated a huge milestone in Cardiff yesterday, as it officially opened the doors of its 500th store in Queen Street.

Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson cut the ribbon and popped the champagne open, along with Jonathan Hook, Managing Director of UK Retail for The Carphone Warehouse.

Colin also presented Cardiff resident Andrea Kyte with £500 cash in commiseration for having the most expensive residential BT phone bill. Andrea had clocked up an extortionate £440.65 worth of calls with BT. But now that Andrea has signed up to talktalk, The Carphone Warehouse’s new home phone service, she can start saving up to 30% on her BT home bill.

The Carphone Warehouse’s mobile phone character, Mowbli, also made an appearance at the store opening, handing out balloons and helping customers with their shopping.

“We’ve had a great day opening our 500th store”, said Jonathan Hook. “It’s a massive milestone for us and we are delighted to have celebrated this great achievement in the city of Cardiff.”

Queen Street store manager Jason Hayes said: “We are very excited about our new store, and are looking forward to offering the people of Cardiff the best mobile phone advice in town.”

The Queen Street store has created seven new jobs, and offers customers more than twice the shopping space and experience of the existing Cardiff store (also on Queen Street).

The Queen Street store opens in perfect time for the Christmas season, and offers the latest range of handsets and accessories; ideal for Christmas gifts.
