The Carphone Warehouse launches ‘Music Anywhere’

2010 News

August 3rd, 2010

· Access and listen to your whole music collection from anywhere in the world
· An industry first: Over 6million tracks available from all 4 major labels and independents
· Available on computers, laptops, smartphones and PDAs

The Carphone Warehouse is today, Tuesday 3 August, launching ‘Music Anywhere’, a ground-breaking service giving users access to their entire music library wherever they are in the world. For an annual fee of £29.99, Music Anywhere allows customers to stream all tracks from their personal collection via The Carphone Warehouse’s online My Hub portal, whether on a computer, laptop, smartphone or PDA.

Users can download the Music Anywhere application by subscribing to The Carphone Warehouse’s My Hub portal at carphonewarehouse.com/my-hub or in one of the retailer’s 800 plus UK stores. Using sophisticated Music Anywhere technology to quickly recognise the music files already saved on the computer, the service works by providing users instant access to the same tracks on their My Hub account.

In addition to being able to access entire music collections through the web, Music Anywhere makes it easy for consumers to legally and seamlessly access their music on the move by downloading the Music Anywhere App (The Carphone Warehouse’s first ever app) from the Apple App Store, Android Market or the BlackBerry App World. Working on iPhones, BlackBerries and a range of Android handsets, the mobile service automatically downloads the 500 most played songs and enables them to be stored on the device to give uninterrupted listening without the need for an internet connection.
Music Anywhere also allows users to organise their music, create playlists, watch music videos, check out song lyrics, play podcasts and rate their favourite songs. Music lovers can even add tracks to their collection while out and about and then download them to their home computer. What’s more, the service will be pre-loaded onto the Samsung Galaxy Europa, so customers will receive all the benefits for free.

The Carphone Warehouse has partnered with Catch Media to launch ‘Music Anywhere’, using Catch Media’s award winning ‘Play Anywhere’ technology.

Tom Guy, Group Head of Digital Services, at The Carphone Warehouse said: “We all have a cherished music collection that brings together our favourite mix of songs. The new Music Anywhere service lets you listen to this wherever you are, through any computer or by downloading the mobile App. In just a few minutes you can have thousands of tracks available from home, at work, on the train or in the car!”

Rob Wells, SVP Digital, Universal Music Group International

Offering music fans a wide choice of different ways to enjoy music legally online, and a great consumer experience, is key to continued growth in the digital sector. The UK digital music scene leads the world and we welcome new partnerships that offer music to fans in new ways that reward artists, and the labels which support them.”

Best Buy, the consumer electronics retailer in joint venture with The Carphone Warehouse, will be making an enhancement to its exciting and innovative rewards programme, My Best Buy, by launching the Music Anywhere service to its customers later in 2010.

Through My Best Buy, the company’s customers already enjoy upgrade opportunities and access to VIP tickets and experiences, as well as exclusive gigs at indigo2 and AEG Live events.  My Best Buy also gives customers personalised perks and privileges, offers and recommendations based on their interests as well an area online called ‘My Kit’ where customers will find their receipts, warranties and purchase history in one place.  For more information go to http://www.bestbuy.co.uk
